My great aunt Molly and her family were prisoners in the Santo Tomas Internment Camp in Manila during World War II. When she was living with us in 1963, Ernie Heise (Bruce's father) came over with Bruce to meet her and reminisce. Turns out he and Mom had been talking down at Al Sohl's and discovered that he had been in that same camp. Bruce and I and my brother sat wide-eyed on the floor of our dining room listening to the two of them recall friends in common and tell stories. Bruce's Dad was a member of the Philippine resistance and a guerilla fighter, who had infiltrated the Bataan Death March and her camp several times gathering and carrying intelligence. A very memorable day!
